In general, Bucharest is safe for traveling.  In comparison with many other major cities in Europe, violent crime and serious risks are low.  However, street crime can be a problem in Bucharest and travelers should be aware of the dangers associated with potential petty theft.

Pick pocketing is one of the most common dangers for tourists in Bucharest.   Purse snatching is less common than pick pocketing but does also occur.   These crimes are most likely to happen in crowded areas such as city centers and on public transportation. This problem has been declining in recent years; however it remains a problem in the area. Nonetheless, the risks of serious danger that they pose are low.
